Tantallon

Tantallon is a suburban community in Halifax Regional Municipality. It extends from about two kilometers south of Trunk 3, along Route 333, just north of Ballfield Road, for roughly three kilometers along Route 333, to just south of Longards road, and includes Whynachts Point and Sheeps Head Island. It is bordered to the north by Upper Tantallon and to the south by Glen Haven.

Off Exit 5 are two of the larger subdivisions, Haliburton Hills and Westwood. Both subdivisions feature large lots mostly one plus acre and both have homeowners' associations. There are no municipal water and sewer services; homes have wells and septic systems. Exit 5 is the hub of Tantallon with grocery, restaurants, gas, liquor, medical and hardware stores. The area has a great sports program with the TASA with the rink located immediately off the exit. It is believed the name came from the Tantallon Castle in Scotland

Tantallon is the gateway to the scenic Peggy’s Cove Road. Running along the waters of St Margarets Bay. Smaller rural communities of Glen Haven, Seabright, French Village and others on route the world-famous Peggy’s Cove Fishing Village Tourist attraction. The Peggy’s Cove Road leaves the water line at White’s Lake. A couple of well-known family areas of Brookside, Hatchet Lake, Goodwood complete the loop of Peggy’s Cove Road coming to an end in the Timberlea area.

Upper Tantallon is a popular family area with the very active sports association and community initiatives. In 1988 the St. Margarets Area and Community Centre was built by the community and driven by the strong dedicated group of volunteers.

 Recreation

St. Margaret’s Centre is home to two ice surfaces, a gymnasium and fitness centre. The centre has a full-size gymnasium, which serves as home to the St. Margaret's Bay Slam minor basketball league. Several multi-purpose rooms are available to rent for parties, meetings, or any other function.

In nearby Hammonds Plains, many amenities are available including Hatfield Farm, Glen Arbour Golf Course, and the Hammonds Plains Community Centre. The Centre is a spacious, fully accessible recreation facility featuring a full-size gymnasium, fitness centre, community meeting space, performance art venue, and full-size FIFA and CFL artificial turf facility.

Peggy’s Cove, one of Nova Scotia’s most famous tourist attractions is a short drive from Tantallon. Home to Peggy’s Point Lighthouse – perhaps one of the most photographed lighthouses in Canada, Peggy’s Cove is famed for its picturesque landscapes.
